9ct, 18ct gold & sterling silver jewellery handmade in England
I have been proudly manufacturing traditional handmade Sterling Silver signet
rings for over 30 years, concentrating on superior quality die stamped signet rings
until recently when due to bullion price increases sales of better quality have
dropped considerably.
Now I am also producing high quality cast signet rings from two totally different
manufacturing processes.
A :: commercial lost wax castings, from one of Englands best casting companies
B :: delft clay castings, each one cast independantly by myself in my own workshop
For crest or seal hand engraving, die stamped signet rings are a must, the density of rolled metal and lack of impurities insure
the best results which after all as you are paying a considerable sum of money for the engraving, you want the best foundation.
Commercial lost wax castings, are more than adequate for most standard rings, for engraving 1, 2, or 3 intials or setting a stone.
My delft clay castings produced by hand and by eye may sometimes have a more handmade feel or look about them, though from
experience, most oxford oval shapes tend to be almost as precise in shape as a lost wax casting. They do however benifit from
using a cheaper production method, bullion which I can buy in cheaper in the form of grain or offcuts , and NO VAT.
In short these tend to be as heavy almost as my heavyweight die stamped rings, but approximately half the selling price, or two
thirds of the price of commercial cast signets. They are thicker and heavier than most mass produced rings available, and are
more than adequate for the types of machine engraving I provide myself, or for sending to a hand engraver for initial engraving.
Unfortunately silver Delft castings tend to have impurities, which do not occur in delft clay cast Gold rings, and as a result I
tend to mainly provide them in frosted, or barked sides & plain polished heads, in rediness for engraving which hides most faults.
