I will quote you for any bespoke design providing you can provide your own drawings

Unlike ordering from your local jeweller, I do not have the benifit of discussing with you face to face, therefore providing a design service is not an option as over the telephone and internet would be almost impossible, and very time consuming.

A truly bespoke design starts with an idea, if you are able to convey that idea by way of some rough sketches or drawings possibly backed up with pictures of a similar product it gives me a place to start.
Mass produced items are made from an initial model made by hand usually in either wax or silver

Having spent 5 or 10 or even 40 or 50 hours making the initial piece, from the original a rubber mould is produced. From this rubber mould wax models are produced in a matter of a few seconds.

These wax models are joined together on what looks like an inverted christmas tree, and can now be surrounded in a liquid investement plaster ( like plaster of paris ) once dried and heated the wax is melted out to produce what is known of as a lost wax casting mould into which molten gold or silver is poored.

Once the casting has cooled down these almost perfect replicas of the original need only a few minutes of attention from an average craftsman to look almost as good but at a fraction of the cost of original.

The final cost of each item is the cost of the master pattern + £25.00 to make a rubber mould + appx. £10.00 per casting + the cost of the material used, and labour time to finish the bulk of the castings.

This amount is devided by the number of ( first order ) castings produced to determine the trade price for each individual piece, a percentage is added to this for retail sales time, internet emails, box, etc.

Therefore the more you order initially the cheeper the cost of each finished casting, likewise any subsequent orders will be cheeper as the initial outlay has already been paid in advance.
Past masters ring above from left to right :: wax shank :: wax masonic top plate :: silver casting of top plate :: finished ring
Using the past masters ring above as an example of cad cam mass produced design, the initial design drawings + the initial wax models above cost appx £185.00 to produce, had this been done to produce just one ring including my assembly and the cost of silver etc the retail price for the one ring would have been in the region of £295.00

However at present ( march 2011 ) my retail selling price when ordered singly is £145.00 + Post and Packing and for bulk orders to trade will be discounted even further.
